Panelist Bios
Jimmy Kuhn '70 (Moderator)

James D. Kuhn has been a principal of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and has served as president since joining in 1992. Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, and its partner Knight Frank, operates from more than 340 global offices with over 11,000 employees. During the course of his career, Mr. Kuhn has been advisor, broker or principal in over $4 billion in transactions for 30 million square feet of commercial and residential real estate. He is an expert in the acquisition, leasing, management, repositioning and liquidation of major investments


Mr. Kuhn has create or endowed the James D. Kuhn Real Estate Center at the Whitman School of Management, the James and Marjorie Kuhn Program to Foster Diversity in Real Estate at the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, Syracuse University’s Architecture Program in New York City, Syracuse University School of Visual and Performing Arts’ Student Film Fund and the Leo J. Kuhn Lobby for the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute


Mr. Kuhn graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1965. He was captain of the fencing team, second place finisher in the tri-state championship, and member of the 1964 City Championship team. Mr. Kuhn went on to fence at Syracuse University and was ranked as high as 12th in the country. Mr. Kuhn, after a 25-year absence, returned to fence in the veterans division, where he ranked seventh in the country by the time he retired in 2001.


Steven W. Katz '73 

Steven W. Katz is a founding member and Principal of The Sterling Properties Group, LLC, a multi-faceted development organization which creates a wide range of upscale real estate including residential, office and commercial communities throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut

At Sterling Properties Mr. Katz assumes responsibility for acquisitions, contracts, mortgages, leases, governmental approvals, planning and zoning matters, sales, marketing, advertising, financial and personnel.

Mr. Katz was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Syracuse University and he received his Juris Doctorate degree from Temple University School of Law. He resides in Livingston New Jersey with his wife Ruth, a Syracuse graduate as well. They are the proud parents of three daughters

Mitchell L. Konsker '83
Mitchell L. Konsker is a Vice Chairman at Jones Lang LaSalle and has been a real estate professional for more than 27 years. Mr. Konsker is widely recognized as one of the real estate industry’s most prominent brokers and has been instrumental in negotiating many of Manhattan’s largest and most complex real estate transactions. Mr. Konsker has based his career on developing relationships with many various corporations, and has maintained them with impeccable service. He is known for his hands-on client participation and long-term customer relationships

Mr. Konsker is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and is involved in many charitable and philanthropic foundations such as: The Association for the Help of Retarded Children, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Denver Hospital, Intrepid Museum Foundation, Israel Cancer Research Fund, Board of Directors of The Jeffrey Modell Foundation, National Foundation for Fighting Blindness, ORT, Project Sunshine and United Way.

David Tobin '91
William David Tobin is one of two Principals of Mission Capital Advisors. He has extensive transactional experience in loan sale advisory, investment banking and commercial real estate debt and equity raising. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Tobin was associated with a national brokerage firm, where he started and ran a loan sale advisory business, heading all business execution and development. In that capacity, Mr. Tobin closed in excess of $6 billion of loan sales. In addition, he executed sales and/or financing transactions on the TriBeCa Grand development site, 60 Thompson (a 100 room Boutique Hotel in SoHo), the St. Moritz Hotel, the Barbizon Hotel, the Newark Airport Hilton and the Empire Hotel as well as on a variety of real estate portfolios owned by Sunoco, Texaco, KKR and Royal Dutch/Shell. 

From 1992 to 1994, Mr. Tobin worked as an asset manager in the Asset Resolution Department of Dime Bancorp where he played an integral role in the liquidation of the $1.2 billion non-performing loan and REO portfolio. The Dime disposition program included a multi-year asset-by-asset sellout culminating in a $300 million bulk offering to many of the major portfolio investors in the investment banking arena. Mr. Tobin has a B.A. in English Literature from Syracuse University and attended the MBA program, concentrating in banking and finance, at NYU's Stern School of Business.  He regularly guest lectures on the topics of whole loan valuation and mortgage trading at New York University's Real Estate School.
