Current Board Positions and Vacancies

 

General Info and Time Commitment:  

  • All Officers, Directors, and Board Members must be Members of the club with current dues at the time of their election and throughout their term.
  • All Officers, Directors, and Board Members must be present, in-person at the Annual Meeting & Elections in order to be elected.
  • Officers serve two-year terms.
  • Directors serve three-year terms.
  • We generally hold four open Membership Meetings per year and may hold 3-5 conference calls amongst Officers/Directors (the Board).  Unless noted, you are expected to attend all of these meetings/calls.
  • You are expected to attend as many club events as possible.

The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board of Directors and of the membership.  Subject to the authority of the Board of Directors, the President shall have general charge of the business of the Club.  The President shall also be responsible for submitting an annual report to the Alumni Association and the Syracuse University Office of Alumni Relations that includes an annual financial statement, a list of activities and events held by the club during the year in question, names of registrants at activities and events (where possible), the current paid membership list, and a roster of current officers and directors with their terms of office specified

The Vice President shall have such powers and perform such duties as may be specifically assigned by the Board of Directors and, in the order designated by the Board of Directors, shall also carry out the duties of the President in the President’s absence.

 

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall be the chief financial officer and as such shall have charge and custody of all funds of the Club; shall deposit the funds as directed by the Board of Directors; shall keep and maintain accurate and complete books and records of accounts of the Club;  shall handle all Club funds in accordance with Alumni Association guidelines and Internal Revenue Code requirements for Section 501(c)(3) organizations; and shall perform such other duties as may be specifically assigned by the Board of Directors.  The Treasurer shall also be responsible for preparing all appropriate financial reports and information required by the Club's Charter Agreement.  Unless otherwise specified by the Board of Directors in the election of other officers, the Treasurer shall carry out the duties of the President in the President’s absence.

The Secretary shall prepare and keep minutes of all meetings of the membership and of the Board of Directors; shall serve as custodian of the Club's records; shall see that proper meeting notices are mailed to each member and affiliate member of the Club; and shall perform such other duties as may be specifically assigned by the Board of Directors.  Other duties include booking meeting rooms, drafting content for the Webmaster to post to the website (e.g., Event details and Blog entries), and drafting email blasts to promote meetings and Events.  This is an Officer position and requires attendance at most Club events and meetings.

Responsible for creating and implementing recruitment and retention programs to increase and maintain WhitmanNYC membership. Chairperson shall provide reports on membership trends (new, resignations and renewals), design communication campaigns to grow club membership, and help contribute to Club event planning with input which would impact membership growth, and manually activate FREE memberships for recent graduates.

The Director shall have ultimate control of the Club's website platform, which includes the ability to manage memberships, events, and email communications; shall continually develop an understanding of current and new features of the platform; shall incorporate, edit, and implement content drafted by the Secretary and Committee Chairs for events and communications; shall manage graphics, photos, and video content from events on the website; and shall perform such other duties as may be specifically assigned by the Board of Directors.  Other duties include either developing or sourcing royalty-free graphics from Club Officers for the website and email communications and modifying/canceling registrations for Events - which sometimes will require working with the Treasurer to process a refund.

The Manager will support the Director, Communications and the Club at large by becoming a subject matter expert on the Club's website platform.  Keeping up to date with the most recent features and functions, serves as an additional technical resource to assist all Officers and Committee members with creating web pages, reports, events, and campaigns.

Responsible for supporting the Director, Communications in promoting awareness of WhitmanNYC, its events, and building community on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.  Social Media Manager, LinkedIn, will use this platform on a regular basis with info useful and interesting to Whitman alumni. Director will originate and post interesting content on a regular basis - at least weekly, and more often when promoting specific events and initiatives.

Responsible for creating and executing public speaker events on  a regular basis to facilitate alumni networking, camaraderie, club awareness and goodwill.  Speakers may be prominent Syracuse University alumni or professional/personal development experts whose presentation material will benefit alumni in their personal or professional life.  A minimum of four Speaker Series events should be scheduled each year.

Responsible for envisioning, planning, and implementing quarterly, uniquely interesting, and sophisticated social events to foster recreation and professional networking, monthly Happy Hour events, and Annual Picnic.  Selects venues, proposes budget, coordinates payment, and books support staff as needed.

Responsible for creating and executing community service events to support and further the University's goal of serving the public good.   Events should benefit our membership area of the greater metropolitan New York.  A secondary objective is to facilitate alumni networking, camaraderie, club awareness and goodwill.  The Service Committee should hold at least two events per year, with more held depending on support.

Responsible for the club's mentoring program whose goal is to facilitate connections between mentors with experience in the workforce and mentees seeking to learn and benefit from that experience.  Mentoring Chairman will recruit mentor and mentees, educate mentors and mentees how to maximize the benefits of their relationship, and hold periodic events designed to further the Committee's goals. Chairman will coordinate with the Whitman school and utilize its staff and resources to pursue the committee's goals.
